Who Doesn't Loove the Ood?

And Catherine Tate, too.

Okay, so Planet of the Ood was one awesome episode of Doctor Who. I loved it thematically and I was totally grossed out by the transformation at the end -- which I won't go into so as not to spoil anything (no, the Doctor didn't regenerate, something else happened).

More than anything, though, I've got to say that on the subject of Catherine Tate as the new companion: I'm now totally sold. She is a lot of fun! She is still brash and sassy, but she has a lot more dimension here than she did in the Christmas episode. I also like the no sexual tension in the TARDIS-ness of her relationship with the Doctor. I do wonder, though, when we're going to land on a planet/time when someone falls for her or vice versa. You know it's got to be coming.

I was worried, as many were, that her personality was too big and strong to share a screen with the Doctor or that I would never be able to take her seriously. But she's one talented lady and has done a great job carving out her own style of companion-ness.

I was also worried about Catherine Tate, but for different reasons. In general, I've been less than impressed with the Companions in the new Doctor Who. Rose grew on me, especially once you add in Micky and Jackie, but really she was just a plucky teenager. Martha was a complete Barbie doll. In the Christmas episode, Donna was the stereotypical shrewish spinster. It was really getting annoying. These are the female leads we're offered? I totally thought Donna and the Doctor's relationship was going to be henpecked.

But gladly, they seem to be getting away from that. I like seeing the Doctor, especially this particular boyish/arrogant Doctor, with a strong Companion to balance him. He can get rather patronizing, and it's nice to see a Companion who can stand up for herself. Their relationship isn't as one-sided, and I like that.

I think I have a higher estimation of Martha than you do. Yes, I think she's a total babe (he says in his gayest voice), but she was also brilliant -- which I loved. She would do things that would make me go, "Yeah, duh! Rose never would've figured that $#!& out!!!"

But her pining for the Doctor was weird, and what's more it was totally unnecessary. Like it even felt tacked on.

Anyway, I thought Martha was a better companion than Rose, but I thought Rose had so much more chemistry with both Doctors. That's where I am on that front.

I'm crossing my fingers for more Martha on Torchwood, they've certainly, uh... "made room" for her.

I love the Tate in all things. But the running joke about them being married is getting a bit old.

I think the joke is because of all the "Rose loves the Doctor! Martha loves the Doctor! Jack loves the Doctor!"

They're making fun of themselves.

Yeah, I know. But I still feel like being grumpy about it. What channel is it airing on in the states? You guys don't seem to have any lag time.

I can't speak for Rey, but I worship at the altar of Mininova, in the land of BitTorrent. Hooray for downloads from the UK!

I would never admit to anything that is even a distant cousin to piracy online...
